Harrison Rocks on

The Glasgow Rocks have completed the re-signing of veteran guard EJ Harrison for the 2011/12 BBL Season, as he becomes the second major signing for the Rocks this off-season.

Harrison, who is originally from Connecticut in the USA, has been playing in the UK since 1999 and has developed into one of the most prolific guards in the BBL. His experience and leadership will be a vital component to the success of the Rocks in their 2011/12 BBL Campaign.

Harrison led the Rocks in scoring last season where he averaged 15.1 points per game, shooting 51% from the field and 40% from behind the three point line. The most significant feature about Harrison’s game is that he contributes all over the floor averaging 2.9 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.8 steals per game last season and he once again led the BBL in free throw percentage with 93.8% (60/64) last season. Despite his on-court success, EJ felt that there was still a lot of unfinished business at the Rocks:

“I really felt like I owed the Rocks organization and the Fans something after the season we had last year. Sterling had a lot of faith in me so I wanted to give it another shot at trying to win a championship, hopefully all the players are on the same page and we can move forward as one unit for the full season.”

Rocks player/coach Sterling Davis was elated at being able to retain Harrison and he believes that Harrison will play a key role in the success of the Rocks this upcoming season:

“EJ was a big leader for our team last season both on and off the court. He really helped bring the younger guys along with expectations of the league and also with his work ethic.”

The Rocks have always prided themselves on their backcourt and Harrison’s signature is the first step in attaining a backcourt that can compete against fellow heavyweight teams, Newcastle Eagles, Sheffield Sharks and Mersey Tigers. Coach Davis is confident Harrison will get the job done for the Rocks:

“He was our leading scorer last season, while also running the team from the point guard position. That’s a big spot within our system and he stepped in and took on the role beyond expectations. I am very excited to have EJ back and know that he has a season under his belt at the Rocks he knows exactly what is expected of him.”

The acquiring of Harrison has sparked General Manager of The Forge Shopping centre, Paul Wishart, to confirm sponsorship of EJ for the upcoming season. The Forge Shopping Centre is already sponsoring Sterling Davis for the 2011/12 season as part of a two-year deal which involves the sponsorship of two key players within the Rocks squad.
Paul Wishart had this to say about the recent signing of EJ Harrison:

“We are very excited about the re-acquisition of EJ into the Rocks Professional Team. His all round playing ability and leadership skills were exceptional last season and he was a pleasure to watch. As soon as I had heard the Rocks were bringing him back I was eager to make sure he was one of the two players that the The Forge Shopping Centre would sponsor. We look forward to working closely with EJ, Sterling and the rest of the Rocks team for the 2011/12 BBL Season.”
