Heat add Opoku to roster
Guildford Heat has signed Austrian forward, Hermann Opoku for the forthcoming season. Opoku, 6ft 10in, joins with a wealth of experience, having played in Europe and in the US.
Last season, Opoku played for UBC St. Poltenin in Austria and averaged 9.9 points and 6.6 rebounds in 26 minutes a game. Prior to that, he played for three years at George Washington University in Washington DC.
Creon Raftopoulos commented, “The BBL is a fast league and I needed someone to join the team who is big, agile and athletic. Hermann Opoku ticks all the boxes. He is a high level power forward and we have done well to get him for the forthcoming season.
“At our pre-season friendly against USA Select on Saturday, we won by delivering a strong team performance. Mike, Tayo, Dean and JJ’s performances highlighted why they are some of the best and experienced British players in the BBL. By adding Martelle McLemore, Brandon Shingles and Hermann Opoku to the mix – along with another key player yet to be announced – I am very excited about our potential to compete for silverware this season.”
Guildford Heat’s first home game of the season is a BBL Trophy game against Plymouth Raiders on Sunday 2 October at 3pm at Surrey Sports Park. For ticket details or further information, visit www.guildfordheat.com.
