Horne and Stewart sign for Flyers

The Fife Flyers are thrilled to officially announce the return of Kirkcaldy born defenceman Kyle Horne and the signing of import Danny Stewart. Coach Todd Dutiaume is expecting both players to be impact players for the Flyers this season with both players having a vast amount of experience in the Elite Ice Hockey League.

Flyers player/coach Todd Dutiuame had this to say about former Newcastle Vipers Head Coach Stewart “Danny has a great reputation in this country and his experience on and off the ice will be invaluable to the club. He is renouned as being a big team guy, can play forward and defence and plays hard-expect big things from Danny this season.”

Danny Stewart has played in the UK since the 2006/7 season when he signed with Coventry Blaze before making the switch to Newcastle Vipers to take over as Player/Coach last season. Danny comes to the Flyers as a winner, having won many titles during his time in the UK picking up the EIHL league championship 3 times, British Knockout Cup and Challenge cup during his time with Coventry Blaze. During his time playing in the UK Danny has played 259 games scoring 195 points (58 goals + 137 assists) and 619 penalty minutes. Despite an incredibly tough off ice season with Newcastle Vipers, Danny was awarded the EIHL Coach of the Year last season.

Player/Coach Todd Dutiaume on the return of Kyle Horne. “As far as Kyle, what can I say, he was one of the first guys I thought of when we confirmed we were going up; I’ve known Kyle since the 99 season and he has been a big part of whatever team he has played on since. I consider Kyle to be one of the best defenceman in the country and he will be relied on heavily this season.”

Kyle Horne, again like Danny, has huge experience of the league. Kyle has spent the last 5 out of 7 seasons during his time away from the Flyers playing with old rivals Edinburgh Capitals in the Elite League. He comes back to Fife having played in 208 EIHL games with 62 points (18 goals + 44 assists) and 166 penalty minutes.

Kyle was a major part in the Team GB that saw them win the silver medal at the World Championships in 2000/1. Kyle comes back home to Fife where he came through the junior development programme before progressing on to the first team where he made 254 appearances with 79 points (20 goals + 59 assists) and 122 penalty minutes.

Danny Stewart on his signing with Fife expressed his delight in joining up with Flyers. “I am very happy to be joining an already storied franchise in the Fife Flyers, and with all the excitement and buzz in the area of the Flyers being at the top level it was something I wanted to be a part of. I have heard nothing but great things about the area in Fife and the organization as a whole and it will be great playing again for a secure organization that want to take the team further.”
