Hull Stingrays 2 Coventry Blaze 3 (after overtime)

A close game in Hull which in the end went to overtime where the visiting Blaze grabbed the extra point thanks to a strike by John Gordon on the powerplay after 30 seconds of the extra period.

It’s therefore four wins from four games to start the league campaign for Blaze but for Stingrays the one point they picked up in this game was their first of the season after four games.

An early counter for the visitors in this one as Robert Farmer slammed them ahead after only 2.16. Blaze held that advantage until late in the period but were pegged back by Jason Silverthorn on the powerplay at 18.18.

Blaze regained the lead late in the second session with the only goal, the scorer being Greg Owen at 37.10.

Into the third period and the home side tied it up at 45.08 with a shorthanded effort by Dimitri Rodin to set up a tense remainder of game. Both sides had their chances, especially Blaze on the powerplay but the deadlock could not be broken as the game went to overtime.

This time Blaze took advantage of being on the powerplay when Gordon fired home at 60.30 to give his side the important extra point.
