Introducing the Tiger Bay Brawlers
The Tiger Bay Brawlers are an all-female roller derby league based in Cardiff and were established in April 2010.
They started bouting publicly in January 2011 and won 7 out of 10 bouts last year. They are the first (and so far only) team in Wales to be affiliated with the UKRDA (UK roller derby association). So far in 2012 their A team and B team have matched up against the London Rollergirls’ Ultraviolent Femmes and the Wakey Wheeled Cats respectively. The Brawlers have also started a junior league for both boys and girls aged 11-16 in the Cardiff area, so it’s all systems go in Tiger Bay.
And there’s more! The Brawlers have an intake day coming up in just a few weeks time on Sunday 15 April for anybody interested in joining the league. And it’s not just skaters they are after; if you want to try your hand at refereeing or officiating Roller Derby then get along to the intake day too.
Before all that though, you haven’t got to wait to long to see Cardiff’s finest in action. Just tomorrow night they welcome the Rockin’ Rollers Rising Stars looking to avenge defeat from their first bout in March last year.
It’s Tiger Bay’s first home bout of 2012 so excitement is at fever pitch as the girls haven’t taken to the track competitively since December.
Lola from the Brawlers told us that the Rockin’ Rollers are a long established outfit in terms of UK Roller Derby and their A team won this year’s UKRDA tournament. She and her fellow Brawlers are expecting tomorrow to be one of their closest bouts yet. The Rising Stars are LRR’s B team and according to Lola they are not second rate by any means, and they’re expecting a pretty tough bout.
To see the Tiger Bay Brawlers take to the track tomorow head down to Talybont Sports Hall at 6pm. The bout begins at 6:30pm.

Thanks to @lolapop1 and @billiepistol and may the best league win.
