Leafs top AA Midlands Division
As we have been experiencing summertime in spring, it’s easy to forget that it is early May, and the baseball season both at home and across the pond is just getting started. The AA Midlands Division is made up of five teams, the newest being the Nottingham Rebels. The Rebels are playing their first season in the division this year. And it’s been a baptism of fire for the new boys, as they have lost all four of their games so far this term. It’s always going to be tough starting out, and it’s great to have more competition as British baseball looks to increase its popularity. If you live in or around the Nottingham area and want to get involved either playing or supporting the Rebels, check out their website here for more information.
The Birmingham Maple Leafs are at the opposite end of the table after four games, having won all of their outings this season. They opened the season with a doubleheader against the Blue Sox, winning 13-0 and 23-9. That impressive performance was followed up in a competitive doubleheader on Sunday against the Rebels at Marston Green. The Leafs turned the screw in winning the second game 10-1, but the first matchup was a very close scoring contest, as the Leafs won by just two runs in a 9-7 scoreline.
Next up for the team with a one hundred per cent record are the Milton Keynes Bucks in two weeks time. The Bucks play the Blue Sox II this weekend, whilst the Rebels entertain the Leicester Blue Sox in an East Midlands derby. Both of these matchups are doubleheaders on 8 May.
