McGinn makes the move to Carnegie
Leeds Carnegie Basketball have added the services of former Mersey Tiger, Josh McGinn, to their line-up ahead of the 2013/14 EBL season.
The 20-year-old guard averaged 7.3 ppg, 3.4 apg and 2.5 rpg for the Tigers in the UK’s top league.
Carnegie Head Coach Matt Newby is excited by McGinn’s arrival and the potential he has after having a taste of the BBL: “Josh is a young player with serious pedigree and potential that is well documented. We feel that the Leeds Carnegie Basketball programme will provide a platform for him to find another gear and develop new facets to his game which will complement his high basketball IQ and fundamental skill set.
“His competitive nature and strong leadership qualities will be an asset to the team and a challenging environment like ours should only bring out the best in him,” Newby went on to say.
McGinn, who has represented England at junior level, is excited to continue his development at Leeds Carnegie: “I am looking forward to competing in a lot of competitions this season; I want to do whatever I can to help lead this year’s team to the Final fours in both Division One and BUCS. I feel like I can bring a large sense of leadership to the team along with some on and off court experience having had a lot do to with the national teams over the years.”
McGinn, who hails from Ellesmere Port, has strong belief in Coach Newby and his previous track record and is looking forward to working under his leadership: “Coach Newby always puts a good team together every season and works them incredibly hard. I wanted to be a part of that this year and I trust Coach Newby to get the best out of me and push me to my limits.”
Leeds Carnegie’s roster is close to completion with the remaining signings expected to be confirmed shortly. Carnegie are also in the process of announcing a high profile preseason match up with a BBL club in the coming weeks.
