MLS Week 14 in review
Just over a third of the way in to the MLS season and the vast majority of teams can still make a claim to having realistic hopes of making it to the post season.
Sitting atop the Eastern and Western conferences are the Montreal Impact and FC Dallas respectively. The Impact moved to the summit with a 2-1 comeback win over Kansas Saturday. Fellow Canadian outfit the Vancouver Whitecaps did Montreal a favour with a surprise win over now second placed New York in New Jersey. Former Rangers and Birmngham City striker Kenny Miller beat the defender to the ball to head the Whitecaps in to an 83rd minute and winning lead.
Dallas earned a point Saturday night at the home of the Colorado Rapids. All four goals came in a ten minute second-half spell which culminated in a brace for Blas Perez and a point for the pace setters in the west. Colorado gained some ground on the Galaxy who got thumped on Sunday at the Gillette Stadium. With two goals in injury time flattering the final scoreline the Revolution ran out 5-0 winners over their visitors with five different players on the scoresheet. The goal difference did New England the world of good too as they gained ground in the goals for tally with the team they are level on points with in the east – the fifth placed Philadelphia Union.
There were also wins over the weekend for Chicago (2-0 over DC), Salt Lake (3-0 over San Jose) and Seattle (0-2 over Chivas). Columbus and Houston drew Saturday (1-1) as did Toronto and Philadelphia by the same scoreline.
Just two points separate places 5 to 7 and 4 to 6 in the east and west respectively.
