More Jets stream in
The Coventry Jets have received a major boost to their offensive line with the signing of Michael Billinghurst from the Berkshire Renegades. Billinghurst, another alumni of the Coventry University Jets, joins Chris Hobbs as the second transfer to arrive with the Jets during the offseason.
“I’m very happy to join this highly successful club and really looking forward to taking advantage of all the coaches’ and other players’ experience” said Billinghurst at his signing. “Having been on the committee, and captained, the Coventry University Jets for the last three years I have been in close contact with the Jets for most of that time and getting to know them so well has helped make the transition quite smooth.”
Billinghurst did admit that leaving his old club was a difficult decision “The Renegades were the first team I ever played for and I’ve been there for the last four seasons, going from a 3-7 team to a 9-1 playoff team and into Division One. It always felt like family and I wish them all the best for the season. That said I’m a Jet this year and I’m looking forward to what I hope will be an equally successful year for me and my new team.”
The 24 year old centre, who’s also at home as a middle linebacker if the need arises, has a year to go on his Batchelor of Engineering in Aerospace Engineering knows most of his new team mates already. “Obviously I’m familiar with the Jets players that have coached at the University, and have met a few of the Management team on occasions as well. Everyone’s been very welcoming but having so many of my university team mates here as well has been a huge help in settling in.”
