Mullens Injury Rules him out for GB

British Basketball has today confirmed that NBA player, Byron Mullens will no longer be joining the Standard Life GB men for the Olympic Games this summer.

A problem which lingered throughout Mullens’ NBA season with his toe will prevent him from joining the Great Britain men’s team this summer.

Standard Life GB men’s head coach, Chris Finch commented: “It is disappointing but we have a very strong squad in camp with us in Houston at the moment. Everyone here is focussed on the task at hand and we now turn our attention to our first warm up games of the summer this week.”

Earlier this week British Basketball Performance Director, Chris Spice commented on some further updates to the roster in Houston: “Ben Gordon is continuing his training in Detroit and has not yet joined the GB squad this summer. His situation will be reassessed in a week’s time when we will be in a position to comment further.

“Mersey Tigers player, Myles Hesson has been called in to replace Nick George who suffered a thigh strain in the first practice session yesterday and has arrived in Houston.”

The GB men face their first test of the summer tonight as they play Nigeria. GB prepared for last year’s EuroBasket Finals with a game against Nigeria in Surrey and GB ran out comfortable 95-80 winners, they will be looking for a similar result this evening.

Chicago Bulls forward, Luol Deng has reported to GB camp in Houston but will not play in tonight’s game.

The Standard Life GB men’s squad now stands at 17 players.
