Murray’s a Rock

The Glasgow Rocks are pleased to announce the return of Scotland’s own Gareth Murray, who has re-signed to Scotland’s only professional basketball side after playing for the Cheshire Jets last season.

Murray will be coming off a great season with the Cheshire Jets where he averaged 11.1 points per game, shooting 47% from the field and 42% from beyond the 3 point line. He has matured into a great player and will be given a much more significant role within the Rocks squad this season.

Murray is pleased about his return to Glasgow for the 2011/12 BBL Season:

“I’m glad to be coming back to the Rocks. It was good to experience another club in the BBL, but I really wanted to come back to Glasgow and play closer to home. I am really looking forward to the season ahead.”

Gareth is currently the top Scot in the British Basketball League, and he initially joined the league through the Rocks, after making an unannounced appearance at the Rocks open tryout before the 2005/06 season. Since then, Murray has been a basketball sensation within the BBL and a great commodity to attain for any team.

Rocks player/coach Sterling Davis is delighted and relieved to have the high-flying Scot back on his side. After Murray’s successful 2010/11 season, he is sure to play a big part in the success of the Rocks for the 2011/12 season.

“It’s good to have Gareth back in a Rocks uniform. He got a chance to go out and experience another place other than what he has always known in this organisation and we are pleased he has decided to come back home.

He really had a much improved season last year and we would not expect anything less than that for the upcoming season. He really showed what he can do on both ends of the floor and I’m looking forward to playing alongside the ‘New Gareth’.”

With this first signing complete, Davis and the Rocks will now be looking to secure players to fill the all-important guard positions. Talks with various players have gone well so far and the club are hopeful of another signing within the next few days.
