‘NBA 3X helps the game grow in UK’ says Gay
The Westfield shopping centre in Shepherd’s Bush played host to the NBA’s latest fan-friendly event this weekend, as UK ballers signed up in their droves to play 3-on-3 for NBA event: 3X.
Against the backdrop of shoppers, players were able to participate in organised competitions while NBA star and Memphis Grizzlies forward, Rudy Gay, watched on.
The 3-on-3 competition was not the only thing going on at the Westfield centre, with Pop-a-shot making an appearance, as well as the Larry O’Brien trophy.
The best basketball league in the world continues to reach out across the globe with the 3X tour appearing in multiple European countries as well as Canada, Mexico and the Philippines.
The 2010 World Championship gold medal winning Gay understands the impact that such an event can have on those who love the game and believes Britain is getting a good name amongst his NBA brethren:
“Obviously basketball is a second sport and not really known as it is in America, so it’s good to come out here promote basketball a bit and show our faces,” said the 6’8 small forward.
“It’s such a good country, so much history. I think a lot of guys would be happy to come over and play. And it’s a great city too, London, to come over here and see the city and also play too.”
Gay’s trip to the capital follows the recent visit of past and present pros David Robinson, Dwyane Wade, Bruce Bowen, Robert Horry, John Amaechi, Sam Perkins and Dikembe Mutombo who all visited Covent Garden in August for NBA House.
