Newcastle Eagles at Durham Wildcats: BBL Trophy
The Durham Wildcats, even with more Championship wins than last season, will find their BBL Trophy match-up against the Newcastle Eagles a tough tie, as the two meet at the Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre on Sunday 30th December. Tip-off is at 4:00PM.
The Newcastle Eagles have continued where they left off last season, currently sitting top of the league, in the final of the BBL Cup and looking to return to the Trophy Final again this season.
The current Trophy holders will be confident of progressing to the next round having never lost to the the Durham Wildcats in the BBL, winning by an average of 18.8 points per contest.
The Wildcats, however, will likely be buoyed by their recent win over the London Lions – an overtime victory having been behind by ten points with just over two minutes left in the game. That was the Wildcats fourth win of the season, an improvement on last seasons three victories.
The result saw them halt a seven game losing skid that threatened to undermine their good work from earlier in the season.
The winner of Sundays tie will move on to the Quarter final stage where they will face the Worcester Wolves, who recorded a 90-77 against the UCP Marjon Plymouth Raiders on Friday night.
