Noble joins the Jets cause

After an opening day defeat away to the Nottingham Caesars the Coventry Jets have received a lift by completing the transfer of George Noble. A former Caesar, Noble’s transfer wasn’t completed in time for him to face his old team but the former Powerlifter and Strongman is chomping at the bit to face the West Coast Trojans on Sunday “I was gutted to miss the game last week but it’s just fuelled my desire to go out and make an impact this week”.

Apart from his time at the Caesars, Noble has also played an extensive variety of positions for his University team, the Nottingham Outlaws “I had snaps at running back, H-back, slot receiver, nose tackle and left guard, but for the Jets I expect to be used at free safety. I’d happily play any position though, I just want to be on the field as much as possible and do everything I can to help the team.”

As well as American Football, Noble, originally from Hexham in Northumberland, is a medal winner in Judo and in 2009 broke the British Powerlifting Congress Record for Junior Squat in the 82.5kg weight class. The 22 year old Biochemistry student currently lives just outside Rugby in Yelvertoft and spoke about joining the Jets “Choosing a team to play for in summer was pretty tough. I liked everyone at the Caesars, and through the Outlaws I know guys at Tamworth too so that was also an option.

“Every team I looked at seemed like a really good organisation and I would have been happy with any choice I made, it’s a good time to be playing football in the Midlands. There’s a lot of enthusiasm here and it’s infectious, I already love being a Jet. The things I’ve heard about why we’re in the position we’re in now are not really things I pay attention to but I love that we have players and coaches with the experience of winning the premiership and in Europe, and the desire to do it again.

This season we’re all focused on one thing, getting the Jets back into the Premiership.” Few would bet against Noble achieving his aims “he’s an incredibly driven young man” stated Head Coach Paul Rickhuss “when he sets his mind to something you can guarantee that he’s going to do everything within his powers to make sure that it comes to fruition. There are no half measures with George and although he’s young he’s still an experienced head and will benefit all of his team-mates and the Jets greatly”.

You can see Noble making his debut as the Jets entertain the Trojans at Coventry Saracens RFC on Sunday (the 22^nd of April, kick-off at 15:00) in the Macmillan Bowl. The game is being played in partnership with the charity and all gate receipts will be donated to them. It costs just £2 to watch the game and the money is going to a great cause.
