Paul Gause to miss Rocks cup clash
Newcastle Eagles have confirmed that point guard, Paul Gause will be absent for a fortnight with the calf injury he sustained in last Wednesday’s practice session.
Whilst this is clearly at setback for the League leaders, there will be relief in the Eagles camp that the playmaker should be ready to return for the crunch games against fellow contenders Plymouth Raiders and Leicester Riders later this month. There’s an outside chance he may return for the trip to Chester on November 20th but this Friday’s BBL Cup quarter final against Glasgow Rocks looks like coming a little too soon for the former Seton Hall man.
The Eagles go into Friday’s home clash brimming with confidence following their unbeaten start to the BBL Championship and their progression to the semi-final stages of the Trophy. Player/coach Fab Flournoy and captain Andrew Bridge have both hit form at the right time, filling the void left first by Charles Smith and now Gause. Flournoy has today been given deserved recognition by being named in the BBL Team of the Week with Bridge on the bench.
Perfectionist Flournoy isn’t known for resting on his laurels and he will be looking for another gear from his side following a tight encounter with MK Lions at Sport Central last week. Rocks remain the only side to beat Newcastle Eagles this season in the Trophy pool game in Glasgow with Gause’s absence making the task that bit harder. The pain of last year’s trophy-less campaign still torments the Eagles hierarchy and a victory on Friday will be another step nearer to healing the wounds.
