Probable NFL Milestones for 2013: Quarterbacks
This week we are bringing you several posts on stats to keep a watch over as the 2013 NFL season commences.
Gary Jordan has already cast his eye over head coaches and teams, but today, he gives his thoughts on the QB stars that could achieve greatness.
QUARTERBACKS
Should Denver Broncos’ Peyton Manning pass for 4,000 yards this season he will be the first quarterback to reach that landmark in 13 different seasons. Currently he is the only player to have done it in 12 different years. He is also closing in on 2nd place in two other categories, pass attempts and passing yards. Should he get 566 attempts and 1,875 respectively he will go above the legendary Dan Marino in those areas.
Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints is also in pursuit of some personal milestones. By throwing for 4,000 he will join Manning with 12 years at that level. Also should he throw 30 touchdowns or more he will have done so in six different seasons, and will be the first to achieve this. Brees can also attain the status of leading the league in touchdown passes for a record 5th time. So far he is tied with Len Dawson, Brett Favre, Johnny Unitas and Steve Young.
New England Patriot Tom Brady needs to throw a touchdown in each of the first seven games, to beat the 54 game consecutive streak currently held by Brees.
Aaron Rodgers has led the league in passer rating for the last two seasons, should the Green Bay Packers QB do so again he will join Manning and Young as the only players to have done so on three straight years.
The Indianapolis Colts’ Andrew Luck is looking to pass for over 4,000 yards, should he manage that he will become the first player in history to start his career with back to back 4,000 yard season.
Philip Rivers, the much maligned San Diego Charger has led the league in average yards per pass three times in his career, can he do so again? If so he will join Young (5) and Sid Luckman (7) as the only players to have done so four times.
