Riders lead by example
Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders have had their extensive underage development programme officially recognized, when they were rewarded with Clubmark 5 star accreditation status from the national governing body, England Basketball.
The Riders are one of only 4 Clubs in the country to achieve the status, with Newcastle Eagles the only other BBL Club accredited to that level.
The criteria for Clubmark 5 star accreditation includes the Club having prepared and published a development plan, including coach and technical development, junior development, volunteer recruitment, increasing registered membership, the provision of equitable opportunity (black and ethnic minorities, women, young people and disability) and child protection, and having a partnership with the local authority and/or local schools in the construction and implementation of the club plan. The Club must also have an identified and clear pathways for young people to enter and exit from the club, including for both male and female at junior and senior levels within England Basketball recognised competitions.
Rider’s General Manager was delighted to get the accolade on behalf of the Club, “This is a great achievement for the Club and is the result of a lot of hard work by a lot of people, over a number of years. It is a recognition of our community work and our partnerships with, amongst others, Burleigh Community College, Oadby Beauchamp College, Loughborough College and Loughborough University. We know have a player pathway which I think is recognized as being one of the best in the country.”
For England Basketball, Craig Costello said, “Congratulations to everyone at the Leicester club. This amount of work that they have done in developing into a hub of basketball activity was evident from their application. The club has a clear focus on enabling as many people as possible to enjoy basketball in a safe and friendly environment. I look forward to working with them further in the future to continue their development.”
