Rocks end Sheffield home record as Wolves lead league
Sheffield Sharks suffered their first home defeat of the 2013-14 BBL campaign at the hands of resurgent Glasgow Rocks on Friday night, as they also lost their spot at the top of the BBL Championship table.
Player-coach Sterling Davis was instrumental to the 77-72 victory for the Scottish side, leading all scorers with 24 points, but Daniel Northern made a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds – converting every shot he put up in the process.
For Sheffield it rounds off an awful week having been knocked out from the BBL Cup, the loss of their 100% home record was also compounded with the news that Worcester Wolves leapfrogged them to lead the BBL Championship at Christmas.
Wolves romped home with a dominant 93-64 home win over London Lions, which was settled almost before half-time had been reached. A 17-point lead after the first two quarters handed Worcester the advantage in a game that saw a huge double-double for centre Will Creekmore (20 points and 15 rebounds). Winning the battle of the points in the paint was also key to the victory for Paul James’ side.
In the other game of the night, Newcastle Eagles strolled to a comfortable 111-75 win against bottom of the table Birmingham Knights.
