Romans rule over Falcons with another impeccable performance
Chester Romans made it back-to-back wins for the start of this season’s National Central division as the North West side ran riot over Leicester Falcons, 37-0, leading to a second consecutive week without conceding points.
Two scores in the first quarter saw Michael Banks with the first touchdown, after taking a pass from Brad Chilvers before decimating the Falcons’ defence with some nifty footwork, before rookie Ashley Wainwright claimed the second shortly after with a series of impressive running plays; both touchdowns received the additional point which put the score at 14-0 to the Romans at the start of the second quarter.
The second quarter began with Romans safety Nadgy Khirat’s first of four interceptions on the day, half of his overall total from last year, taking his first and Romans’ third touchdown. Having spurred on the Romans’ defence, linebacker Danny Cotton scored a safety to bring the score 23-0 at the half.
Wainwright crashed through for another on the ground in the third quarter before the pairing of Chilvers and Banks came together again producing a magnificent pass into the far corner of the endzone. Chester stood firm for the remaining time on the clock, seeing matters out with a 37-0 victory.
The offensive MVP was awarded to the entire offensive line for their dogged and determined efforts and the defensive award went to Nadgy Khirat.
