Rundles devastates Wolves
A capacity crowd came on to campus to watch this clash of the titans Wednesday night in Worcester.
The sides went toe to toe throughout the first twenty with Freeman and Wierzbicki leading the scorers at the halfway stage and the Wolves ahead in the game by five. Worcester had held the lead from the start and had the slight edge with accurate shooting from outside from Prezzie-Blue and Freeman keeping Riders at bay.
A nothing short of ridiculous spell from the Riders guard Cameron Rundles early in the third took this game away from the in form Wolves. The Minnesota native scored 16 of his 29 point haul in the third with everything he touched hitting nothing but net. One nonchalant teardrop basket during the spell that he seemed to flick in to the bucket with ease typified the spell and his hot hand put paid to Wolves hopes.
Any chance of a comeback looked slim as a 17 point swing had opened up a 12 point lead at the end of the third ten for the visitors.
Worcester were unable to drain anything from the perimeter as they looked to eat in to the defecit and despite at times breaking up Riders possession the lead was too much. Tommy Freeman was called for a personal foul in the final quarter on a night when Wolves players and staff were clearly unhappy with the officiating and it was the last we saw of Freeman as he walked out of the Gym. Freeman was only on four personal fouls and it appeared that he was subbed out rather than ejected.
We await confirmation on the incident and there will be a full game report to follow from our Riders beat writer Keith Firmin. The game ceased to be a contest at this stage and with a technical given to the Worcester bench and Richie Gordon disputing a late travelling call as he hadn’t got control of the ball, things went from bad to worse for the home side who lost by a 24 point margin at the death.
Final score 75-99 – Full report to follow.
