Seven men of Wildcats claim 17-point win on road to Raiders
Having gained a 24-21 lead with one minute remaining in the first quarter of their game against the UCP Marjon Plymouth Raiders, the Durham Wildcats never trailed again, getting a memorable win on the road, 98-81.
The Wildcats entered the game with an 0-5 record against their opposition with the most crushing defeat coming earlier this season when Plymouth travelled to the Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre and handed Durham a 113-68 loss.
History counted for nothing though, as the seven-man squad that Coach Elderkin took to the Plymouth Pavilions returned home with their largest win of the season (outside of the 20 point hurting they put on the Mersey Tigers), as forward, Brad Guinane, went off for a game-high 32 points on 12/17 shooting (8 of 12 from beyond the arc). Page, Baldarelli and Keister combined for 53 points in the win.
The Raiders’ Michael Ojo top scored for Coach Gavin Love’s team with 24 points but it wasn’t enough as Plymouth lost their sixth game of the season. The loss was representative of the Raiders’ inconsistent season to-date, as they lost not only the game but a chance to record only their second three-game winning streak of the season.
The Plymouth Raiders have the perfect opportunity to register their next win of the season when they travel to Knowsley in Merseyside to face the Tigers, while for the Durham Wildcats, a road game against the Cheshire Phoenix awaits.
Both games are scheduled for Sunday 27th January.
