Sheffield Sharks catch a bite with Barbour signing

One Health Sharks Sheffield have signed rookie Brian Barbour has become their latest recruit.

Following on from the first summer additions of Mike Tuck and Nick Lewis, the 6′ 1″ guard joins the 2012–13 BBL Trophy winners fresh from his senior year at Columbia University in the City of New York. Barbour also is beneficial of having recently obtained an Italian passport, that will come as a welcome relief regarding the impact of the import ruling.

A native of Alamo, Ca., Barbour was voted into the All-Ivy League 2nd Team for 2012-13, where he finished the season with 12.1 points per game. In addition, he is the only player in Columbia University’s history to finish his career with 1000 points, 300 assists and 100 steals.

Speaking of his move to South Yorkshire, Barbour said: “I’m thrilled to join the Sheffield Sharks and their organisation. To be able to continue playing basketball at a high level in Europe has always been a dream of mine and I can’t thank them enough for giving me this opportunity. I am looking forward to getting out to Sheffield and getting right to work.”

The 22-year-old becomes the latest piece in Coach Atiba Lyons’ jigsaw as the club look to build on a progressive last season, where they managed to prevent a clean-sweep of silverware for eventual League and BBL Cup winners, the Leicester Riders.
