Sherlock rejoins the Riders
Jelson Holmes DMU Leicester Riders versatile 6’7″ forward Tom Sherlock has signed for a second season with the Club, after an impressive debut season. 29 years old Sherlock returned to basketball with the Riders last season after 2 years out of the game with ankle and knee injuries, that had threatened to end his career.
A native of Derby, and previously selected by GB Students, Sherlock played in 28 games in his inaugural season with the Riders, mainly from the bench, and averaged an impressive 5 points and 4 rebounds a game.
For Sherlock it was a very enjoyable experience, “It was great to be back playing at a high level, and I thought things really went well for me. The coach obviously had confidence in me, and gave me plenty of opportunities, and I felt much better as the season progressed. And I feel I have a lot more to give.”
To help his further rehabilitation Sherlock is off to the US for 6 weeks in the summer for intensive training. He will use the facilities at his old college, Wayne State University in Sioux City, Iowa, and hook up with some old team mates. “I think this will be a great chance for me to build up for the new season, and I want to come in at the top of my game. Hopefully that will put me in a good position to push for more court time next season.”
Riders Head Coach Rob Paternostro said, “It is great to have Tom back. He brought an extra dimension to the team with his flexibility. I had confidence for him to fill in any number of positions, and he always gave us something. He is a high energy guy, can hit the long range jumper, and is pretty active on the boards. I always was confident to use him in the starting five when we wanted to give a different look, so I am very pleased Tom has decided to come back. Continuity is important and Tom will be a big bonus in that regard, and I am expecting even more things from him next season.”
