Tendler realistic over goal tally
Jereme Tendler says he is under no pressure to emulate last season’s goal scoring exploits for Excel Hull Stingrays.
The Canadian forward led the team in scoring as he posted 51 goals – a club record – and 31 assists in 61 games during his maiden year with Stingrays. But Tendler believes player-coach Sylvain Cloutier has recruited well during the summer and there will be a lot more players contributing to the team.
He said: “I am just going to take it one game at a time and hopefully the puck will go in for me again. If it doesn’t, I will just keep working at it. “I would like to get around 35 this year. If I can score more, then that’s great. If I get less then hopefully someone else is scoring the goals.
“I think we have a really good team this year and there are a lot of guys on the team who can score goals. I am really excited about this season.”
Tendler, 27, became the first player to be signed for the 2011/12 Elite League campaign, although he admitted he did receive offers from North America, Europe and other British sides.
He added: “I came over here with an open mind and had a great season personally and had a lot of fun. It was one of my better years of playing pro hockey. “Clouts is a great coach and a great friend and when he came back I thought why would I not come back? I had just had the best year of my hockey life.
“I had a few options but the grass is not always greener on the other side. I enjoyed it so much here last year. I wanted to come back and try to have another good time.”
Stingrays take on Coventry Blaze at Hull Arena on Saturday August 27 (7pm face-off). Tickets can be purchased by ringing the Hull Arena Box Office on 01482 325252.
