That’s the Spirit

The people of Plymouth once again have a local American Football side to support after the Plymouth Spirit were granted Associate team status by the BAFACL. The Spirit are the first team to be granted the status for the 2011 season. The award paves the way for the South West outfit to look to achieve full league status in 2012 which has been a target for the organisation.

Mark Tanner the Spirit’s Chief Executive said “This is a huge step for the Plymouth Spirit. We submitted our initial application at the end of January, and followed that up with further evidence to back up the application the last month. Then for the last week it has been a waiting game as league officials made the final consideration. So many people have been involved, both past and present, in getting the club to this position and I would like to thank them for their effort. However, we cannot rest on our laurels at this point as we still have several further criteria to meet before we achieve the goal for 2012, this includes playing at least two games, one at home and away.”

He added, “By getting the Associate status we now have the green light from the league to arrange fixtures, so hopefully over the next few weeks we should be able to announce our games for 2011. We have several offers from other clubs on the table so it is now a case of seeing what can be arranged to fit in with each teams relevant schedules.”
