This Is How We Do It: 1990s NBA Video Knockout

We’re back with our selection of high-quality NBA endorsed advertisements brought to you during one of the greatest decades – the 1990s.

We’ve already cast our eyes over some quality televisual highlights – click here to see parts one and two if you have missed them.

The votes have been counted though for our second glut of ads, and joining Kevin Garnett and the Fun Police in the next round is Larry Bird and Michael Jordan’s ridiculous game of H.O.R.S.E.

This match-up is between the smoothest of smooth men, John Salley and his advert for a clothing store and Michael Jordan’s famous Gatorade commercial.

FIGHT!

‘Salley’s suits’

Brilliant because… It’s confusing as to whether this is an advert for a clothing store or former Detroit Piston, John Salley’s ability to bring mannequins to life. Salley is the smoothest part of this commercial, easily outshining the computer generated images and the guy in the double-denim.

vs.

‘Be Like Mike’

Brilliant because… ‘If I could be like Mike’ was a great campaign. It perfectly reflected how a nation felt – they all wanted to be like MJ. Gatorade made sure that viewers were brought straight back down to earth with the sobering reality that the only way they could be like Jordan was by drinking the same beverage as the great man. Thanks Gatorade.
