Top Enrolee Prospects for this Year
The next wave of college inductees is rolling in, many having started a semester early to fit in the all-important spring games. Some youngsters have already impressed, filling holes left by those that have left for the National Football League, and some will develop over time.
Here are some freshman prospects to look out for this fall:
Darrian Miller, RB – Kansas
The Jayhawks had a woeful year, going 3-9. If they want to start competing they have to find dynamic inductees, one of which they may have already discovered. Spring practice has been kind to Miller. He scored four touchdowns in one training scrimmage and has shown explosiveness and electricity in the open field.
James Sims, standing at 6’0 and 226lbs, led the team’s rushing corps last year and will be well complimented by the slighter and shorter Miller.
Braxton Miller, QB – Ohio State
The Buckeyes’ starting quarterback, Terrelle Pryor, is banned for five games due to his part in the trophies-for-tattoos scandal. Braxton Miller is a local, celebrated athlete with a great opportunity to lead the team from the off. He’ll certainly be the fans’ favourite to be the signal-caller but there is competition.
He can rush and pass but has his hands full to give Ohio State a run at a national title given the games against Michigan State and Miami that Pryor must sit out.
Anthony Johnson, DT – Louisiana State
Losing Drake Nevis was a big blow to LSU but the hole left behind has opened a window of opportunity for the player many have to be the best defensive tackle prospect of the incoming class. Johnson stands at 6’4 and 295lbs and is bound to be a presence on the line.
If he can start fast then the Tigers may live up to the top-five contender status that many have them down to be.
Aaron Lynch, DE – Notre Dame
The Fighting Irish have inducted three five-star defensive ends that look set to terrorise offensive lines in their time at Notre Dame. The best of these looks to be Aaron Lynch who was unblockable in the Blue-Gold spring game. He racked up seven tackles and often hurried the quarterback.
The 6’6, 260 pounder will push Kapron Lewis-Moore for the starting job and will certainly play time in Notre Dame’s one true defensive end role in their 3-4 scheme.
