Victor Moses signs for Cheshire Phoenix
Liverpool FC are now not the only side in the North West to have Victor Moses playing in a forward position, as Cheshire Phoenix head coach John Lavery has moved to bring in a Georgetown College graduate of the same name.
Moses, who stands at 6′ 6″ hails from Lexington, Kentucky and helped the Georgetown Tigers to the 2013 NAIA Division One title as well as bagging the accolade of National Player of the Year in the league.
His former coach at Georgetown, Chris Briggs, reckons Moses could be a revelation in the BBL.
“Cheshire has gotten a steal with Victor Moses,” he said. “There is no doubt in my mind he will be one of, if not the best, player in the league.
“Vic will make the most of this opportunity and move up the ladder in his professional career. I am very proud of him.”
UKAmericanSportsFans.com can confirm that Moses has arrived in the country and was at training Tuesday evening, and has been drafted in to strength the Phoenix after their tough defeats away to Worcester Wolves in overtime on Friday and then the stunning 35-point loss at home on Sunday against Leicester Riders.
For Lavery, the move is a step toward turning the Phoenix season around.
“Victor has been on our radar for some time,” he said. “When the opportunity came up to bring him in we had to make the decision.
“He is an All-American class player and one who could really give is a major presence at both ends of the court.”
Following the Riders game last Sunday, Yannick Crowder was released by the club, which has opened that space up for Moses to join up with the side, and is hoped to be ready for Saturday’s BBL Cup showdown away to Durham Wildcats.
“We felt like we didn’t have an inside presence,” according to Lavery regarding the Crowder decision. “Hopefully now, we have addressed that situation.”
