Wolves at Jets – BBL Championship Preview

Sunday 14th October

Cheshire Jets vs Worcester Wolves

After a disappointing and abrupt halt to Cheshire Jets’ BBL Cup campaign on Friday night with a 90-59 defeat to One Health Sharks Sheffield, they are back on the Championship track at home to Worcester Wolves.

Therein lies a difficult task, as Wolves visit the Northgate Arena less than 24 hours after a resounding league victory in Worcester against Mersey Tigers, 98-48.

Arnas Kaslauskas made all three attempts outside the arc count last night, and he will no doubt be a thorn in the Jets’ side this evening(as he did last year – note how he got under Matt Schneck’s skin in the play-offs…) however Cheshire will prove harder opposition than Tigers.

The Jets organisation will of course be disappointed to be out of the running for one piece of silverware, although now it allows for more concentration in the long term.

Play-off qualification is the goal and many see Gabe Haskins and Alif Bland as the key men this season.

Haskins has not had the rub of the green so far. Despite this, the general opinion is that his ability to hold the ball outranks that of Adam Brown from last year’s ‘Mohawk Squadron’.

Bland likes to make the boards rattle and the hoops flex, but Jets fans will hope that his conversion percentage elsewhere on court improves, to make him a complete force to be reckoned with. Tonight, we could see just that, especially in the knowledge that online Jets fans voted him their MVP in last week’s derby match versus Tigers.
