Schreiber back for a second stint with the Raiders

Plymouth Raiders have announced their first key acquisition of the offseason, with Centre Andreas Schreiber returning for a second spell at the Pavilions.

Raiders Coach Gavin Love admitted earlier in the summer that he was hoping to build next year’s squad around the 6’9 Swede, however as the weeks went on, he feared the worst. Just a week ago Love had almost resigned himself to the fact that Schreiber would take a better offer elsewhere, and so will be delighted at the big man opting to return to the Devon based outfit.

Schreiber, out of the University of Pennsylvania, only joined the side in January, replacing Brit Liam Potter to link up with Matt Schneck in the Raiders’ frontcourt. He immediately made an impact at both ends of the floor, averaging 12.5 points, 8.6 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game. His explosiveness on defense made him a fearful presence in the paint, while his touch around the rim, combined with a sweet jump shot, made him tough to guard on offense.

Crucially, Schreiber also has dual Swedish and American nationality, meaning he does not take up one of the three American import slots that BBL teams are permitted. This made him an even more attractive proposition to a host of European clubs, however his decision to come back for a second spell and snub all other offers is a credit to the Raiders as an organisation that will be looking to contend for all the major honours next season.
